I turned twenty this month. It was nice.
19 years...
and 20!
The difference is just staggering. Don't you think?
I just realized I am wearing the same jacket in those pictures... Yep. Just staggering.
It was also the birthday of my dear siblings, Joseph, John, and Judy.
It was ALSO Fathers' Day.
I'm pretty sure this is one of my favorite pictures of my parents. Ever.
Happy June everyone! Hope it was great!
p.s. Having talked with my good friend Shelby and then later, my roommate, I've decided I want a teacup pig.
Aaaaaah. So cute.

Today
in class, I dehorned a cow. I felt terrible. Those cows were not happy.
Oh well.
Anyway. (I use that word a lot in my posts... I also start many of them off with the title "Today", and then continue from there. I guess there are just certain methods I prefer??) Today I saw that ModCloth is having a sale.
I like ModCloth...
and I like sales...
I really just like the name of this top. "White Here, White Now". hehe. (much better if you take the 'r' out of 'Here' also)
So great.

I've washed my hands fifty times but I can still smell it
Today we had to check some cows to see if they were pregnant. I stuck my arm in some of them.
Inside their...
their...
Rectum.
It was pretty gross, but it was also kind of satisfying. Is that weird?
Never mind, I know it's weird.
Anyway. I feel like this was a big step for me. I've felt around the inside of a cow. It was warm and squishy.
Now, if you'll excuse me I am going to go wash my hands again in a desperate attempt to rid them of the stench.
p.s. I've recently been introduced to the music of Mindy Gledhill. Isn't she so cute?

Achilles
I have a fish. I named him Achilles. But I think he is going to die.
Is this a Riggs curse or something? I don't get it.
He came from a friend who kept him in a martini glass through fall and winter semester. I don't know if he was sick but if he was he lived through it for a long time. Why is he sick now?? I gave him a bowl and a plant. His life was supposed to get better.
He has been pretty slow for the past few days, but today he has been darting around his bowl all the time. His fins keep flaring up, he's tried to jump out of his bowl a few times, and there is a swollen lump under his gills.
Maybe I will take him into my Animal Health class to see if Dr. Waddoups can fix him. hehe.
Seriously though. Lame.
Also. Today in my Animal Health class (my life has gotten a lot more weird since I became an Animal Science major) we did some fertility testing in bulls. I didn't actually work with the bull at all, I did paperwork half the time, and the other half I dyed semen on a slide and counted sperm under a microscope. It was fun I guess. It was more fun watching the bulls though.
Poor things.

It's Winter in Wonderlaaaand!
Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, I have my classes at the Livestock Center. Between 10 and 11:30 I have an empty slot but I don't want to go back to campus for an hour so instead I do work in the computer lab, and I go out to see the horses/cows/sheep.
I think there is a horse class during that time but they haven't actually used to horses yet... So today and Wednesday I had the horses all. to. myself.
I step outside and it's so quiet, so all the horses look up to see who's being so loud walking over the snow, and they all have their gorgeous winter coats. Ohhhhhhh my goodness...

This guy's name is Oreo. I can't think why...
This is Superman! He's roommate to the horse I rode last spring.

What's with the tongues, guys?

RUDE.

Too Much?
I went through some of The Pioneer Woman's (I never know whether to call her Ree Drummond or The Pioneer Woman. I mean, Ree Drummond is her name but I don't know her. Awkward) flickr and... I have lots of horse pictures in my favorites now. I think maybe I have another problem. Horses and shopping. WATCH OUT! IT'S CONTAGIOUS! Maybe.

Horses covered in snow, so beautiful. Even before she photoshops them, I'm sure.
She had another camera giveaway today. I'm going to win it this time, I know it. 50,000 people but I'M gonna get that camera.
I think it's probably a good thing so many people enter her giveaways because otherwise I would think "Hey I can win this one!" and then I would be crushed when I didn't. I'm dramatic like that.
Isis would like me to mention that while I'm having fun following this website, she has spent the last couple days napping on the couch, rug, chair, table, etc... Poor cat, it's hard to play outside when it's raining.

Sauce.
As in, LAME sauce.
I was supposed to go work down at the stables at 1 today, but S* wasn't there, just the workers who clean out the horses stalls and give them food. I asked them when they thought S* would get there but I think most of them don't speak very much English. One of the guys said probably in about an hour.
So... at like 2:15 another woman showed up and I asked her if she thought S* would be coming in today and she said probably not because it rained yesterday so the arenas were closed and there wouldn't be any lessons. ughhh so lame! She called him and left him a message so hopefully he'll call me. I should have made her give me his cell number. baaha
I spent my hour walking around trying to make friends with the horses. I think if I were a horse at that stable I would be bored out of my MIND. They sure act like it.
My favorite so far is a big black one they keep in an outside stall, although it's covered. He doesn't have a name plaque but he was pretty friendly. Seriously so big though, I would think he's tall enough to be a draft horse but I don't actually know anything about horses anyway.
Well, better luck next time!

Update
I spent three hours at the stables today, grooming horses and cleaning plaque/hay off the bits on the bridles. While S* was telling me how to clean the bits he told me if I didn't want to do it because I thought it was gross, I didn't have to. Do the other student volunteers tell him they aren't going to do stuff because it's gross?? It made me wonder, for sure.
I did it even though I thought it was gross. I loved it. Although I think the bridles were rather more tangled up when I put them back. Oops. I'll have to ask about the proper way to do it next time.
Anyway. It was fun! I hope they need me longer next time.
Also, black horses with dandruff. Not that attractive.
Just sayin'.

Waffle
So, in case you haven't already heard, Waffle, my cat, died last Monday. My mom called me on Tuesday to tell me he was missing, and on Wednesday to tell me the Humane Society had been called to pick up a dead cat on the same day he went missing. The cat was found near our house and had the same coloring as Waffle so we are positive it's him. I was really sad that night and Nicole and Deanna were so good to sit with me while I was bawling about it, and my siblings have been calling to see how I feel. I'm still sad when I think about it but I haven't found myself thinking about it too much lately. I've been away from home for a while so I've already been missing him for a while, and I'm used to the feeling. Waffle was pretty much the most amazing cat I've ever seen and I know that we will probably never find another one quite like him.
Nicole told me he was in kitty heaven. I told her he probably wasn't. haha.
Can I just say that this is the second time Heavenly Father has sent me an amazing roommate? Deanna was definitely the person I needed in the summer when I was still getting used to being away from my family and dealing with my homesickness. Nicole is someone it's hard to imagine me ever having problems with as a roommate. We're comfortable with each other's habits and find it very easy to talk to each other. I feel like she's become a really great friend to me and I'm going to miss her a lot when she leaves in the spring. I think we've both helped each other this semester.
